The Village of Summit contracts with an independent firm for assessment services to fill the Appointed Statutory Position of Assessor. Accurate is the current firm we partner with for proeprty assessment.

The Assessor's main responsibility is to value all real and personal property according to state law.

The Assessor field verifies new, razed and altered buildings, provides notice of changed assessments to residents, provides the official assessment roll to Village Clerk, holds annual Open Book inspections, and attends all sessions of the Board of Review.

If I disagree with the assessment or classification of my property, what can I do about it?

If you disagree with your assessment, sec. 70.47, Wis. Stats., grants you the right to appeal.
There is a local Board of Review (BOR) for all property assessed by the local assessor. The Wisconsin Board of Assessors reviews manufacturing property assessed by the state assessors. For information on filing an appeal with the Wisconsin Board of Assessors, please refer to the DOR website on the Business tab under Manufacturing. There are some requirements to appeal your assessment to the BOR.

A written or oral notice of your intent to file an objection must be filed with the Board's clerk at least 48 hours before the first scheduled meeting of the BOR.
A written and signed form of objection to property assessment must be filled out and filed with the BOR clerk within the first 2 hours of the BOR’s first scheduled meeting.
Objection forms are available from the local clerk.
